NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick Review

Since I’ve been on this quest to find the best liquid lipstick, I realized that I’ve lost my ways and I’ve been spending way too much money. I want to look at cheaper alternatives and save both you and I some money this year! Let’s find some drugstore dupes in 2018.

A drugstore lippy that I keep hearing about and seeing around just about every corner is the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick. I love NYX products but I think I’ve touched on this before – their products can be a hit or a miss for me.

This lipstick retails for CAD 6.99 and you receive 0.13oz. You can purchase this just about anywhere they sell NYX cosmetics. Some drugstores that carry this brand are London Drugs in Canada and Target and Ulta both have a wonderful collection in the states.

Doll up your lips in plush and vibrant color! NYX Professional Makeup’s Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick glides on and sets into a striking matte finish. Velvety soft and waterproof, this long-lasting lippie creates a positively polished look with every swipe.

Packaging ✩✩✩

No major issues with the packaging here. It’s sturdy enough and I haven’t had any issues with leakage. Also no wow factor or anything to set it apart from its competition. The print on the tube rubs off extremely easily and ends up looking old and worn after only a few uses.

Applicator ✩✩✩

A long flat doe foot applicator that is extremely soft and flexible. The only down fall? It might be a little too soft and flexible. I didn’t get the precision I wanted with this applicator, it was difficult to get a crisp line and took more work than usual.

I find that this might not be a problem with lighter shades like nudes or pale pinks. Dark shades will always be a little tricky to apply but you know I had to put this to the TEST!

Formula ✩✩✩

The formula is not remarkable. It is not as pigmented as I would have liked it to be. The application took a lot of work and a lot of back and forths to get the opaque colour I was looking for.

It was hard to tell if this formula was ever going to set and news flash – it never did! I’m really confused by the claims on their website as well as the few reviews I read. I saw the words “matte”, “long-lasting” and “drying”. I would use none of these words to describe this liquid lipstick. It’s more of a comfortable, satin finish.

Colour ✩✩✩✩

The colour selection is wonderful! 24 very different shades. I can safely say that no two colours look alike. It’s not like ten shades of red, ten of pink, one after thought purple or brown. You have a real selection of fun colours from nude to poop green/brown 💩

The blue I chose was amazing. I saw so many makeup videos where beautiful women wore bright blue lipsticks and the comments were always the same “Why would you choose a blue lipstick?”, “No one looks good in blue.”, and mostly “That looks horrible on you.”

I want to wear more fun colours and let people know “Hey, it’s just make up.” and most importantly “My body, my face – my choices.”

This was the perfect statement blue. Don’t come for me.

Longevity ✩✩

Yeah let me save you a long spiel and let the photo speak for itself. This is THREE HOURS IN, PEOPLE. THREE. If you’re like me and rely on longevity, let me save you some money, even if it is just $6.99. If you don’t mind reapplying, this could be a good drugstore lipstick for you. The colour is beautiful and it’s comfortable enough to wear all day long.

We will continue our search and God damn it we will find a lipstick at the drugstore that will blow us away! That is a promise.
