Urban Decay – Vice Liquid Lipstick Review

Who loves a good liquid lipstick

…that doesn’t look dry, lasts all day and doesn’t bleed? You and I, that’s who.

I’ve been on a quest to find the best liquid lipstick without breaking the bank. Don’t get me wrong, if a product is good, I’ll spend my coin and not think twice about it. What I don’t like is spending an absurd amount of money on a brand name product and being left disappointed.

Maybe it’s the cheap East Van girl in me but if I’m spending over twenty dollars on a product, it better out preform every single drugstore product I own.

Urban Decay’s Vice Liquid Lipstick isn’t new but since I’ve been motivated to try out every single liquid lipstick there is, oh and it was on sale at Sephora, I decided to try it out and let you know what my thoughts are.

Straight from the website

Get lasting wear, highly-pigmented color that will not transfer with Vice Liquid Lipstick. Like Urban Decay’s original formula, it saturates lips with color and its comfortable, nondrying wear sets it apart from other liquid lipsticks.

Packaging ✩✩✩✩✩

This packaging is so beautiful. A nice size at 0.17 oz, making it compact enough to throw into your bag and can even fit into your pocket. The tube is clear with a gun metal lid making it nice to look at.

Applicator ✩✩✩✩

It has a really long paddle applicator which is supposed to “provide a nice, even laydown of colour.” For me it was a little too flimsy and not as precise as I would have liked it to be. It made it tough to line my lips and get a crisp edge.

Formula ✩✩✩

The formula is decent, for most shades. This is actually one of the reasons that this lipstick has such mixed reviews. It seems to vary from shade to shade. I’ve noticed a smooth, comfortable application and look with some and the complete opposite with others.

Mixed reviews on Sephora’s website.

Full Disclaimer – I’m not wearing any make up other than the lipstick so let’s just try to focus on my lips.

714 – a perfect holiday Red, the formula on this one is perfect!
1993 – I really dislike the formula on this one. It’s streaky and so sheer.

Colour ✩✩✩✩

The colour and shade range – Perfect! They come in a variety of matte and metallic shades. You have anywhere between your natural, everyday nudes to deep wine reds and metallic plum shades.

Longevity ✩✩✩

This was tough. I expected so much and maybe I shouldn’t have gone into this with such high expectations. I was lucky enough to purchase these during Sephora’s “WOW Wednesday” Sale so I got them for $12 where as they usually retail for $24. When you’re purchasing a high end product that’s double, or even triple the price, of your drugstore liquid lipsticks, you would think that the formula would speak for itself. I got about 3 hours of wear with these until I had to reapply.

This is only after one hour of application. That’s my not impressed face.

In one case, I had to completely remove the lipstick in a cafe bathroom because it felt so chalky and dry, I then reapplied and got another few hours out of it but ultimately wanted it off my lips.

In another case, I had a meal with coffee and my lipstick had smudged all over my cheeks and bled down to my chin. Not a good look.

Overall, it’s not a horrible product. It’s quite pricey for the actual quality. If I could rate them individually I’m sure some would be better than others. This inconsistency is frustrating.  I would say save your money and pass on this product.

I guess the quest continues…
