Skin Salvation – Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Welcome to my new blog series – Skin Salvation.

This is where we’ll be deep diving into all things skin. You won’t be finding any negative reviews here, just helpful products, DIY’s, and general tips and tricks!

Today we’ll be covering the award winning, Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, an all time favourite of mine.

The Product

Everyone, say hi to Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, she’s going to be your new best friend.

Now I’m not going to sit here and list a bunch of expensive products from Kiehl’s that you need to purchase. Almost all my skin care products are from the drugstore and under $15. What I do believe in, and sometimes preach, is spending money on quality skin care, not all of it, but you do have to pick and choose where it matters.

When I had really bad cystic acne, I walked into Kiehl’s to see if I could find any type of face wash that I hadn’t tried from the drugstore or Sephora, nothing was working.

I picked up a pretty crappy face wash that did nothing for me but I don’t even mind because there was a sample of this bad boy with my purchase.

I was directed to put a few drops in my palms and warm up the product before gently patting it into my face. I did exactly this. I was shocked when I saw the difference after a measly week.

The Issue

As a skincare novas with cystic acne prone skin, I knew absolutely nothing and I’m not afraid to admit it! I thought that moisture + oil = break outs. I would strip my skin with a harsh cleanser and follow up with absolutely no moisturizer.

I feel like this is a common mistake oily prone/acne prone girls make. No one told me any different. Everyone took one look at my skin and said “Are you washing your face twice a day?” That was really the only “skin care advice” anyone ever gave me.

After doing my research and finally changing it up with this oil and then later adding moisturizers and different products into my routine, my skin wasn’t so parched. I actually stopped secreting so much oil, therefore I was not breaking out as much, magic.

I have been using Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate for 3 years now and have only gone through 2 bottles so CAD 81 dollars initially seemed insane. After seeing how far I could stretch this product it didn’t seem so steep the second time around.

The Routine

This stays on my night table. I’ll usually shower and do my nightly skincare routine around 8 pm and head to bed around 11 pm so all my moisturizer has had time to properly sink into my skin. I’ll go ahead and press this into my face as I lay down and doze off with the lingering scent of lavender and primrose.

I wake up with a beautiful glow every time. I always stare at myself in the mirror the morning after and contemplate washing my face because of how red and uneven it looks after doing so.

The Benefits

I have some “ice pick” scarring and quite a bit of discolouration from old acne and this product has helped me so much, here’s why:

The two main ingredients in Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery are evening primrose oil and lavender oil.

Evening Primrose Oil – works wonders for skin barrier repair, is anti inflammatory and boosts radiance.

Lavender Essential Oil – helps soothe inflamed, irritated skin, reduces blotchiness and restores complexion by reducing acne.

So whatever your skin type is, you need to try it out. Get a sample, test it out for a while. Let me know what you think!
